Chiefs Acknowledge Domestic Violence Claims Connected to Wide Receiver Rashee Rice
The NFL franchise released a comment Wednesday night stating they are aware of claims of abuse circulated in social media posts by a ex-partner of wide receiver Rashee Rice and were in communication with the NFL.
The organization did not mention the player by name in their statement and noted they would have “no further comment at this time”.
Claims Shared on Instagram
Dacoda Nichole Jones, who likewise did not name the athlete by name, posted a set of images on social media that seemed to depict indicators of bodily harm. Jones did say the individual in question was the parent of her kids, and it is known she has two children with the football player, whom the team selected in the 2023 draft.
Official Complaints Reportedly Not on File
No police reports were available in Overland Park, Kansas where the alleged abuse is said to have taken place.
Player's Prior Off-Field Troubles
The receiver was absent for the initial part of this NFL campaign due to an league-mandated ban for his involvement in instigating a crash on a Dallas highway that resulted in multiple people injured. He was given 30 days in jail and five years’ probation after pleading guilty to felony charges.
On the field, Rice finished the season with 53 catches for 571 yards and five TDs as the Kansas City went with a losing record and missed the playoffs for the first occasion in a decade.
