Homages Pour In for the Reiners as Autopsy Reports Remain Under Wraps.
Over a fortnight subsequent to the heartbreaking passing of renowned film director Rob Reiner and his wife, photographer Michele Reiner, friends and colleagues are still paying respects to the duo.
A Heartfelt Farewell: Cary Elwes Recalls His Director
Posting on social media, actor Cary Elwes, who rose to fame in Reiner's iconic movie *The Princess Bride*, explained he finally felt prepared to post publicly about his deep grief.
"Enough time has passed that I can at last articulate my loss into words," wrote Elwes, adding that his first meeting with Reiner created an instant bond. "Once we started passing more hours together I understood this was someone I wanted in my life."
The actor shared never-before-seen clips from the production, adding that he cannot recall "a single day without joy".
"This story is about love, loyalty and sacrifice. Principles that Rob cherished deeply. That is part of the many reasons he was the ideal person to direct it," Elwes continued.
He went on to praise Michele Reiner, stating: "To say that they were a formidable pair would be an understatement. My heart still pangs every time I think of you." He ended with a line from *The Princess Bride*: "Indeed, death cannot stop true love but existence is agony without you."
Martin Scorsese Reflects on a Friend and Collaborator
In a different piece, revered director Martin Scorsese paid homage to Reiner, whom he originally knew in the 1970s.
"From the start, I loved spending time with Rob. We had a natural affinity for each other. He was hilarious and sometimes sharply witty, but he was never the kind of guy who would take over the room," Scorsese said.
Scorsese highlighted Reiner's acting part in his 2013 film *The Wolf of Wall Street*, embodying the father of the main character.
"He was skilled at improv with the best. He was a virtuoso at comedy, he worked beautifully with everyone, and he grasped the human predicament of his character," Scorsese added.
Legal Developments: Autopsy Reports Restricted
This week, a Los Angeles superior court judge agreed to prevent the publication of the Reiners' post-mortem findings, following a petition from the Los Angeles Police Department.
A court order issued a restriction on the files to prohibit the public release of "all case details, evidence and photographs" connected to the ongoing investigation.
The relevant authority had earlier stated their deaths were the outcome of foul play, with a public database noting the cause as "injuries from a sharp object".
Aftermath and Reactions
After the deaths, public individuals expressed varying reactions.
Former President Donald Trump wrote on the matter, making provocative claims that were broadly criticized by numerous public figures.
Podcaster Joe Rogan contributed his criticism to the detractors recently. Conversing on his program, Rogan described the statements as "shocking" and implied they revealed a worrisome lack of empathy.
Rogan concluded by proposing that an adviser could have intervened when the choice to comment on the passing was made.
