Week six of the 2025 NFL season
Real-time updates includes live text of the weekend matchups via various channels, beginning with the Broncos-Jets clash at Tottenham (kicking off at 2 PM BST). Also, audio coverage is available on select stations for another key matchup (beginning at 9 PM BST).
It's week six of the football calendar and following recent talk regarding two top teams being a potential Super Bowl match-up, they both lost their unbeaten records.
Notable during those contests were the amount of penalties each committed. Philadelphia did so in key moments so they kind of defeated themselves having led 17-3 going into the final quarter against the Denver Broncos, set to play in London this Sunday.
However it was positive to observe how Denver's QB the rookie was able to have that deficit and then direct three successful possessions on three possessions in the fourth quarter, securing the victory 21-17.
Denver boast the defensive player of the year with cornerback Pat Surtain II. They are number one in goal-line defense, while the Eagles lead the league in scoring near the end zone, yet Denver prevailed in that battle.
They had effective strategies regarding disguised blitzes. They weren't necessarily sending extra defenders instead they might position two LBs in the 'A' gap then withdrawing them and send a slot defender off the edge.
Early on of the season, we said during a show that Denver could be the current year's surprise contenders. They ended last season well then did a good job in continuing that momentum.
Could Denver be this season's dark horses?
New tight end their tight end has stepped up significantly and new running back JK Dobbins is a player they believe in. He's currently 5th league-wide for rushing yards (402) and tied for fourth in rushing scores (four).
It's impressive how head coach the Broncos' leader has "RUN IT!" prominently of his playcall sheet.
That shows that the Broncos are a team aiming to prioritize the run, because you can achieve much off the back of that. It reduces down the pass rush while keeps you in positive down and distances.
This has benefited QB Bo Nix, who entered the NFL as the 12th overall draft pick last year, throwing 29 TDs – just behind a star QB in rookie records (31 back in 2020).
Other elite QBs possess the arm strength to throw anywhere, but they don't move the mobility as Nix. He has incredible passing ability, which is different, plus he's so athletic.
His strengths include his mobility, being able to throw on the run, as well as finding different arm angles to make the pass as he moves outside protection, on rollouts. He can deliver precision throws across the middle and past defenders.
For a young quarterback, at 25, he displays a lot of composure under pressure and isn't really fazed by extra rushers. He aims to avoid a sack as much as possible and is able throw in tight spots. He possesses a high football IQ and remains very decisive.
When you constantly run the ball it consumes the clock and forces the defence to stay on the field for longer, and when you've got a mobile QB the defense has to cover the field downfield and horizontally. This proves draining.
The quarterback has pushed back at Payton on the sideline sometimes and it seems the coach likes that fire, that he's a fierce rival. I think it's exciting for the coach to have a young quarterback who's similar to play-dough. The coach can really build something up how he wants to build it. I think it's a unique opportunity for him.
Payton has won a championship and has surpassed Bill Parcells in all-time victories (173, tying for 14th). He's seen everything. I think the achievements Denver are experiencing on offence is largely down to his leadership, his schemes, his game sense – and the combination with the QB aids make him into who he is.
You wouldn't want a more qualified person guiding you, to assist you during difficult moments and build self-belief.
I believe in the Broncos' defense, in the QB's grit and calm. Yet are they strong enough to face a top squad at its best? Since that wasn't a Super Bowl performance by the Eagles last Sunday.
Currently, it's unlikely Denver are incredible. They're working above average, that's a good place to be in their division. All they need to do to continue this trajectory.
They excel at leaning into their forte, that is running the ball, and that's exactly what they must do versus the Jets in London. It's going to be the JK Dobbins show, in essence.
The Jets have surrendered 140 yards on the ground per game (sixth worst), five ground scores so far (10th worst), and they are the sole squad without a win any game.
Ever since the league started recording takeaways in 1933, the Jets are the inaugural squad to go without a single takeaway through five games, this is kind of shocking when you think that their new coach was previously a defensive coach at the Detroit Lions.
Patrick Mahomes says Kansas City have 'already lost too many games' after Monday's defeat to Jacksonville.
Following the upcoming matchup, the Broncos face a manageable slate up to their bye (in week 12) - the Giants, the Cowboys, the Texans and Las Vegas Raiders before the Chiefs.
In the AFC West, Kansas City are 2-3 and the Broncos are even with the Chargers at 3-2 meaning they could challenge for the top of the division.
This hinges upon which form of the Chiefs they face since the Broncos {beat|def
