The Actress States Speaking About Donald Trump Would ‘Intensify Divisions’ Tearing the Country Apart
Jennifer Lawrence has declared that she no longer feels fitting to speak out countering the Trump presidency, concerned it could worsen unhelpful debate and further divisions within the country.
‘I Don’t Really Know If I Should’, Notes Jennifer Lawrence
Speaking with media, the Oscar winner reflected, “Back in Trump’s initial term, I thought I was moving hastily without clear direction. But as we’ve learned, over multiple voting cycles, public figures fail to influence at all on who people vote for.”
She continued, “So then what am I doing? I’m just voicing my thoughts on something that’s going to worsen tensions that’s ripping the nation apart.”
Political Evolution
Jennifer Lawrence has spoken candidly about backing Republican and Democratic presidential nominees in past elections. Raised by conservative Republicans in her home state, she supported the Republican nominee in the 2008 election then moving to the Democratic party and stating she recognized during the Obama era that supporting the GOP was voting against her individual liberties as a woman.
Earlier Remarks
Several years ago, she stated that Trump winning the presidency could represent “a catastrophic event” and publicly supported Joe Biden in the 2020 presidential race. More recently, she gave her endorsement to Kamala Harris, “since I think she’s an excellent choice and I know that she will make every effort to protect women’s health rights.”
Industry Position
Lawrence was supported by most of Hollywood in her opposition to Trump as a candidate for re-election, but the limited influence public figures have over the voting intentions was underscored by Trump’s victory.
“The second term seems distinct,” said the actress regarding his leadership. “Since he stated his intentions. We were aware of his actions for the previous administration. He was very clear. And that’s the option selected.”
New Release
Jennifer Lawrence is discussing Die, My Love, director Lynne Ramsay’s movie in which she stars as a new mother who faces challenges with her mental health in a remote area. Speaking at a media event for the movie in the film festival, she commented on the situation in the Middle East: “I feel fear. It’s mortifying. What’s taking place is nothing short of a genocide and it’s terrible.”
Broader Concerns
She continued by expressing that she was saddened by “the lack of civility in the discussions of U.S. political debates right now and how that is going to be commonplace to the kids today. It’s going to be standard to them that elected officials deceive.”
She attempted to refocus outrage about the issue to leaders rather than actors and artists. “Keep attention on those accountable,” she advised, in what many took to be a reference to the then-recent pledge supported by numerous Hollywood professionals to boycott Israeli film institutions.
Individual Insights
Jennifer Lawrence, who received an Academy Award aged 22 for her role in the acclaimed film, is generating Oscar buzz for her performance in Die, My Love. Even though Lynne Ramsay has denied the narrative being understood as one of post-birth struggles and psychological distress, she shared that she did relate to elements of her role’s experience after the delivery of her new baby, soon after filming concluded.
“There was concern regarding my baby,” she commented, “just picturing every potential danger, and then questioning everything that I was doing. I was seeing a therapist, but I began using a treatment called the prescription and I took it for 14 days and it really helped.”
Career Moments
Lawrence also discussed about the freeing requirement of completing nude scenes in the film while she was in pregnancy and unable to exercise.
“It feels nice,” she commented, about having to abandon insecurities. “I mean, I do have moments where I’m like, How exactly do I differ between myself and a sex worker? But it doesn’t keep me up at night.”
