The Red Devils Set to Sign German Forward Lea Schüller away from the Bavarian Giants
The Women's Super League club are finalising completing the signing for prolific Germany forward Lea Schüller on a permanent transfer away from Bayern Munich.
A Marquee Acquisition for the WSL Side
Schüller, who has six months left on her contract, is known as a prolific goal-getter for her club and the national team. Having netted over 100 goals for Bayern and scored 54 times in 82 appearances for her country. This signing is viewed as a major coup for the WSL team.
Departure from Bayern has been anticipated after she appeared to be fighting back tears while thanking the club's supporters after a victory over Bayer Leverkusen recently.
It was reported in late December that the Frauen-Bundesliga was set to lose one of its leading forwards. According to reports, the formalities for the transfer are now finalised.
Reliable Goal Threat to Boost the Forward Line
The 28-year-old’s signing is expected to provide a significant boost to the team's forward line. Schüller has been remarkably consistent in front of goal in the Bundesliga.
- For seven straight seasons, including the last term, she achieved at least a double-figures tally of league goals.
- She won the top scorer award in 2021-22 season with a haul of 16 goals.
Gathering Momentum at Old Trafford
Securing the German international comes at a time when United appear to be building momentum.
Recent performances include securing a place in the European knockout phase playoffs as a seeded team and a victory in the Conti Cup quarter-finals.
In the transfer market, the winter break has seen additional business:
- The signing of Sweden defender Hanna Lundkvist on a multi-year deal.
- The new deal for Japanese midfielder Hinata Miyazawa, a popular figure since arriving in 2023.
Regarding Miyazawa’s extension, a senior figure commented: “She has become a vital component to the way we play. Her understanding of the game and skill enables her and the team to control and dictate play from the middle of the park.”
The new defender, having joined from a side from the NWSL, added: “You can sense how much the club have progressed in the last few years, competing in one of the most competitive leagues in the world and performing in the Champions League.”
